Keep Missing Your Team’s Virtual Drinks?
Updated: Jun 1
It's Friday night and the team have planned their usual fortnightly drinks to keep you going during the lockdown.
Every week you say to yourself you will go and commit to your colleagues but when the time comes round there is always something that comes up.
You love your team and miss them like crazy but the idea of sitting on a zoom call feels uncomfortable.
You hate that feeling of awkward silences as people try to navigate social cues on a temporary internet line.
So you decide to tell them the dog needs walking, put your pj’s on and carry on binging Normal People with a rose.
What if I told you, you could break this cycle.
If you are missing the drinks on a regular basis something more may be going on for you.
Next time try to slow down and hear yourself think.
Our thoughts influence our feelings which influence our behaviour.
So if your thought pattern is something like “ Eugh, I can’t be bothered, it’s going to be awkward anyway. I am not really a Zoom kinda gal” undoubtedly you will feel less enthused about going and likely will end up cancelling.
Next time you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, notice them. Now ask yourself what are the positives of joining the Friday Cocktail Hour?
It could be: “I might have a really good laugh” or “ It would be so nice to catch up with my team and hear how they are getting on” or even “maybe the hot guy will be there and laugh at my joke”.
Whatever it is, think about all the good things that could happen and start telling yourself that. Then notice how you feel about going to drinks.
You might have your cocktail dress and lippy on in no time!
